In the EWOL project, this year’s season is not going according to plan due to the coronavirus situation. The multinational sailing team led by former Olympian Gašper Vinčec planned to take part in some of the most renowned races in Europe this year (Giraglia Rolex Cup, Palermo – Montecarlo, Maxi Yacht Rolex Cup, Rolex Middle Sea Race), but faced constant cancellations. Either due to state/institutional decrees or ensuring the safety of sailing crews or due to poor participation due to the inability of foreign teams to arrive. Those cancellations take place, unfortunately, exactly in the year when some other exceptional maxi yachts sailed from the USA and Australia to the Mediterranean, and the competition would be truly top-notch, in fact historic.

The EWOL Sailing Team has done some excellent trainings since the beginning of the epidemic and will compete in the “La Cinquecento” regatta on Saturday, September 5. It is a 500 nautical mile long regatta starting in the city of Caorle, which belongs to the municipality of Venice. The regatta surrounds the Croatian island of Susak and the Tremiti archipelago in Italy and returns to the starting point. The motivated crew will try to break the 2011 record of 53 hours and 31 minutes.

The management of the EWOL project has not yet made a decision on participating in Barcolana and possible other regattas in 2020. If Barcolana is organized and the participation confirmed, all possibilities still remain open – either participation with a smaller or larger Way of Life yachts or with both. In the case of a positive decision, Vinčec announces the fulfilment of the promise after last year’s victory, namely that he will invite to the race an even larger number of young talented sailors.
